Mississippi River trivia

The Father of Waters is part of a big family with lots of grandchildren, legitimate and otherwise, when it comes to stories, yarns, facts, trivia etc. Whether its wildlife, history, architecture, river valley terms, industries, navigation, environmentalism, famous names, natural wonders, urban centers, or other areas, the Mississippi has lots of well-known and little-known pieces of information to tease us with.

And just to add to the fun, we've got a little surprise for those who can successfully answer this version of the brain tickler. But first, take your best shot.
