One of their themes is called "the Journey of the River and the Sun.".  It is a simple image of a sun setting over the water, and it can be seen on bus stops and street signs.  It has become the official logo for the revitalization of the West Side.  The "Journey of the River and the Sun" project is only a small part of a much larger riverfront revitalization effort.

Some envision the West Side as a series of linked urban villages where people can live, work and play.  Others see baseball stadiums, musical venues and other attractions - including a remodeled Harriet Island. A plaza and outdoor terrace overlooking the Mississippi is included in this plan.  Officials are also looking into the creation of a Riverwalk along the Mississippi.  The concrete river slope would be replaced with a multi-level landscaped river edge for public use.  It would provide access to the river, and it would include a boat landing, picnic areas, restrooms ad possibly a river amphitheater.  They would also like to incorporate many open, green spaces in hopes of restoring the island back to the peaceful, recreational area it had once been at the turn of the century

WSCO would also like to incorporate more recreational areas throughout the West Side,  incorporating more trails throughout the area in order to accommodate the needs of the pedestrians and cyclists.  By widening the major roads, such as Wabasha and Robert Street, and creating more "pedestrian friendly" intersections, more people would be encouraged to stroll through the area.  More trails will also be built along the Cherokee Bluffs so that people would be able to move easily between the bluffs and the Flats.

The West Side Community has made a strong commitment to the preservation of its unique history.  Many steps have been taken to preserve the cultural diversity of the area as well as the natural resources.  It is the diversity of the residents and the resources that makes the neighborhood a great addition to the St. Paul community.  The West Side continues to be a truly remarkable neighborhood.
